Five weeks of Oktoberfest two blocks from Union Station. Festbier and Märzen on tap in the proper Maß, Bavarian plates through the season, and nine event dates — three whole-pig roasts, two Bavarian Brunches, live music on the Sundays between, a family afternoon on Columbus Day, and one evening with a brewer over from Berlin.
A whole suckling pig, roasted, in the Biergarten — and the only Saturday lunch we serve all year. We open at noon for it, three times a season and no more.
These sell out. Reserve rather than turn up — one pig is one pig.
Brunch the way it is eaten in Bavaria, not the way it is eaten in Washington. Choose a starter or a dessert, choose a main, and it comes with coffee or juice and a 0.3L Bier. This year’s card goes up shortly — details below.
Sunday afternoons in the Biergarten with a band under the umbrellas. Festbier and Märzen on tap, Bavarian plates off the season menu, nothing to book and nothing to buy but lunch. 25 October is the last day of Oktoberfest — then the Maß go back in the cellar for a year.
The city has the day off and school is out, so we open on a Monday we are normally closed and give the Biergarten over to families for the afternoon. Live music, room to run about under the umbrellas, and a menu with something for everyone at the table.
For the children: the Kidstoberfest plate — Käsespätzle, a frank in a blanket and a fruit cup, $11. For everyone else: the full Oktoberfest card.
Monday is not a normal service day for us, so the room is only as big as the bookings.
BRLO’s brewer is over from Berlin for one evening, with three of their beers on tap. BRLO is one of the breweries that changed what Berlin drinks — a Kreuzberg operation making beer that is properly German and not remotely old-fashioned.
Try all three side by side with the BRLO Flight — three 0.2L pours, $18, or drink them by the glass. The full Oktoberfest menu is on all evening.
On from 19 September to 25 October, Wednesday to Sunday from 2 PM.
